Cosmoprof 2001
Beauty in Progress

Beauty was the unopposed star for four days of intense action, extreme vitality and great emotions for everyone working and operating in the beauty business at the 34th edition of Cosmoprof in Bologna, Italy. On stage were the world's most prestigious perfumery, cosmetics, hairdressing, and make-up firms.
In the great Cosmoprof Theatrum, L'Oréal proudly presented one mega-show after another, every one of them featuring prestigious personalities, while in the smaller Make-up Preview Theatre in hall 36 the world's most celebrated make-up artists introduced the latest trends for next season.
In the symposia and conferences, discussions were heard about cosmetics, how effective they are beyond actual appearance and their important scientific aspects; others debated the industry's economics and, of course, there was also plenty of room for debating questions related to the beauty industry as a whole.
Cosmprof was the realm of perfumes and presented a great opportunity to launch the new arrivals scheduled for 2001. Trends for this year's women's fragrances seemed to be leaning towards light fragrances with notes of ozone and sea air, and flowery and delicate. For men, the move this year is towards spicy fragrances, but also light aquatic perfumes. The great noses that create fragrances channeled their research towards new notes derived from natural extracts, which they are flanking with the citrus notes they already use: there is talk of extract of walnut, of hazelnut, of sesame and of tomato leaves (for men's fragrances), and of extract of coconut and plum (for women's perfumes) and even of artichoke, nettle and sunflower, as well as extract of algae for marine notes.
That's the trend you will find in the perfumes for women by Yohji Yamamoto, where lively green notes blend with natural vanilla and azalea, or where identifiable accents of extracts of chamomile, lime, iris and even raspberry tea stand out.
The presence of the new Byblos for Men fragrance (Diana De Silva) is light and fancy-free: a breath of nature and freshness with bergamot, violet and cardamom.
The image of a New York skyscraper, as stylized in the packaging, inspires Donna Karan's new metropolitan perfume, DKNY The Fragrance for Men, where nature comes out triumphant in a cocktail that combines juniper berries and peppery white notes with the freshness of ivy and mandarin.
The new Krizia per Lei fragrance (Morris Profumi) is a triumph of intense, vibrant light, its fragrant bouquet combining the intensity of light with refined, magical olfactory notes.
One of two fragrances for him and her, innovative in its packaging and olfactory notes, is Trend Les Copains (Eurocosmesi), while fashion designer Mariella Burani (Eurocosmesi) has presented Bouquet de Roses, and Cosmoprof itself provided the springboard to launch a new Gai Mattiolo perfume for women and preview the new fragrance by fashion designer Marina Spadafora and Roberto Verino's Eau de Verino.
